Science of Patterns by lee25 Science of Patterns by lee25
The image originates from a plant in my garden, I've always liked the colours and the pattern of the leaves. So I wanted to make a piece that presented these leaves in a different way. I took a photo, then vectored it in illustrator then spent the next few days tweaking and adjusting till I was happy with it.

I love the typo, very nice. I'm not convinced of the way the leaves are layered so you can see them through each other though. Or maybe they're not, but that's how i'm seeing it.

Oh I did'nt intend for the leaves be so that you could see through the layers. I just used the same image of the leaves in different positions.

very nice job mate!
it looks simple but the truth is you vectorized all the details on the leafs outline... which takes a little pacience too. :D

keep it up man!

Oh god I can't believe I commented when I was drunk how embarrasing. But it is a really lovely piece. I love how you've made these leaves look so summery when normally they're sort of associated with autumn.

Ugh for gods sake is this you having to defend your work again? For the love of god what is with some of the people on the site?!!

My apologies if the following comment seems very condescending - I know you don't like to hear negative, unconstructive comments.

This design just feels very generic. With the leaves, it's just been done so many times. However, I have no gripes with it.
Now, I do concede that you have pulled it off well, and the overall composition is great. The integration and positioning of text is simple yet effective.
Only the overall design... feels like I've seen it times before.

oh well boo hoo, i'm sorry my designs are so generic. You don't go upto a Constable painting and say, oh i've seen landscape paintings before I wish he'd done somehting more radical.

I actually didn't state that your designs are generic. In fact, in my previous statements to your work I have applauded and complimented your great style. This work is executed well as I have also stated, but just feels generic. That doesn't mean that your skills as a designer are at all bad.

On the subject of a Contsable painting - some people actually would say that because it's what is in their mind. It may be a "wrong" opinion to many but that's general perception. Personally, I believe he was and still is a great painter - his treatment of the medium is and his compositions (especially that in Salisbury Cathedral) are amazing. Now I do profess that it would have been best I just gave you a compliment or a comment that did not at all seem harmful... but I will also state that I did not intend on hurting your feelings, which I clearly did and am sorry for. What I do not apologise for, however, is that I made a comment.

I will say again, if you missed it, that I didn't say your designs per se are generic. I only said this one. If you can be bothered replying to this, I'd just like to know whether you're still agitated or not.

Thanks and cheers. I'm sorry for hurting your feelings.

I'm really tired of justifying everything I do, so what if you think its generic, its not as if it were contrived from the start to mimic another persons work. I set out with a concept and developed it over a week. So your telling me its generic, hows that going to help me? its not as if I do the same work over and over again. I may have lashed out in my first reply, but I had just gotten up and I was not in the mood to be nice.

I actually preffer Turner to Constable when it comes to landscape painting.

I did not miss the nice points i just chose to deal with what wound me up.

Indeed, so what if I think it's generic? If you think you did a good job then good on you.

I can see why you would be tired of justifying what you do because you receive so many comments that those like mine seem thorns in the side - especially if you have been working on a piece for so long and then someone just comes along to say something unconstructive and extremely unhelpful like, "oh, that's generic", and doesn't provide a reason. Yes, I see that my comment was very poorly made but that can't be changed now seeing as how we've kind of gotten a pseudo-argument going on. I'll get one thing straight that I really do genuinely feel. No, you don't make the same works over and over again, and that's what's good; you experiment which is always a positive thing for an artist and designer. I hope I didn't get your feelings too down. Then again, it's not as if the work was contrived to mimic another person's piece - you know this, so what I said about it shouldn't ring true in your mind.

In retrospect I think I overreacted, I tend to take things personally very easily when it comes to my work. Your first comment was perfectly valid, and I agree with what you were saying. Although as I said before it jsut did'nt seem very helpfull. I've calmed down now, im ok with everything now. :P

Yeah, I totally agree that my comment was very unhelpful. I hate it when people don't elaborate after making such comments - I am a hypocrite in that sense. Again, I'll apologise for such a useless "critique" (yeah right... it wasn't a critique at all).

You were right to defend your own work because it's your own afterall. In turn, it's entirely understandable that you might take things personally. I'm just glad this has all blown over.

very nice dude.its col how u didnt do branches. well at least i think it is, considering i dont know how they would look with sum. this way oit gives them a more falling, autumn feel. the line work is good and the border is very nice - the way it grades into all white. im not too sure about the text. have you tried putting the stroke on hte inside or centred to the line? it just doesnt look like hte natural font. anywho well done.. again :D
